About Aeon
Aeon was built on fury and determination.
Born from an obsession with ingredients, and a frustration at seeing shelves stocked with prohibitively expensive skincare that contain ingredients better for frying chicken than improving skin.
Many skincare labels include active ingredients in ineffective quantities and blend them with cheap filler oils (like sunflower, grapeseed, safflower and soybean) to keep costs down, while charging us through the roof for the privilege.
After years working in cosmetic formulations and reading clinical studies day in, day out, I began mentally banking ingredients that I knew were proven and good, noting the percentages they were trialled at in order to make positive change to the skin. When I couldn’t find products that included all these delicious things, in levels that would actually generate results, I said, ‘fuck it’ and made my own.
By Any Other Name
Why Aeon? In Greek mythology Zeus and Hera’s daughter, Hebe, poured the gods of Mount Olympus an elixir of ambrosia that gave them the gift of immortality. While in modern use Aeon describes a long period of time, its ancient meaning refers to timelessness, life, and vital force.
In gnostic ideology an Aeon is an emanation of ‘god’. My namesake Aeon, Sophia, created the material world. This philosophy is based on the belief that the world we live in is flawed and true salvation comes from nurturing the heavenly spark that lives within us all.
Aeon is the link between humanity and the divine.
About Me
It’s taken me two years to get my bio written, because I’d rather walk on broken glass than big myself up. That said, Aeon is something I’m incredibly proud of. As a former beauty journalist, I’ve tested 1000’s of bottles of skincare, so I know when something’s worth shouting about.
I’m mindfully growing Aeon with a slow and steady approach to ensure a future built sustainably and ethically, with the vision of creating community and the means to give something back.
